    I’m excited!

As much as I adore reading poetry, I think I greatly prefer to write it. Is there any possible way for me to submit one of my poems to be looked at as a potential poem choice for other competetors? Though they may not be as complex or classic as poems that have lasted over the course of centuries, teens may find them relateable, and I would definitely consider it to be a huge honor for my poem to even be reviewed as a possible entry choice.

    Thank you kindly,
    Savannah Leigh R.

I agree. I too adore peotry, and i too; prefer to write it. most of the poems i have read make no sense to me… i perver the dark deep, sweet sadness

For teachers and students worried how to approach a poem and not drown in the “What Does The Poem Mean?” molasses, poet Alice Fogel’s new book “Strange Terrain: A Poetry Handbook for the Reluctant Reader” straightforwadly destroys the myths that prevent a reader from enjoying a poem and provides clear steps on how one might enjoyably approach a poem. I observed her workshop and came away thinking, wow, this is just the resource a teacher nervous about tackling poetry could use because it utilizes the multiple intelligences concept to show there are many right ways to approach a poem, not just one. The book is available via Hobblebush Press, Brookline, NH (www.hobblebush.com)for $16.95

I am happy to find your site. Now, I’d like to HEAR Walter Farley and other students in their poetry recitations. Can you make that happen? Is this available anywhere, on radio, etc.?

just found your website & LOVE it! Especially as I read poetry at open mikes. Is there any way i can buy a hardcopy of the “Browse poems” not the list but the poems themselves ? THANKS SO MUCH ! Lari

    • Justine Chiappetta says:

We do offer a hardcopy of our anthology that has quite a few, but not all of the poems online. We have a teachers kit that you can get for free through your State Arts agency that has 2 copies of the anthology, 1 recitation CD, one DVD of best practices, 2 posters and 2 teachers guides. Click here to find your local arts agency.

This from a teacher at another New Hampshire high school who copmeted in the state championships showing how POL naturally bridges into the creative writing of poetry as well:

“And I wanted to tell you that the boy who won it for NH last year has been writing his own work ever since, and I know this because I heard/saw him at one of my Manchester readings. He performed a persona piece that absolutely blew me away. So the program works!” English Teacher and poet at Timberlane HS, NH
