Albert Goldbarth was born in Chicago. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and earned his M.F.A. at the University of Iowa. He went on to the University of Utah for graduate study. He has taught at a number of universities including the University of Utah, Syracuse University, and the University of Texas at Austin. Goldbarth is the only poet to have been awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry twice, in 1991 and 2001.
