Galway Kinnellb. 1927
Galway Kinnell was born in Providence, Rhode Island. After two years of service in the U.S. Navy, he completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton and earned a graduate degree at the University of Rochester. His book, Selected Poems (1980), received both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. His other numerous awards and honors include the Bess Hokin prize and the Eunice Tietjens prize from Poetry Magazine, a Brandeis University Creative Arts Award, a Pulitzer Prize, a National Book Critics Circle Award and several Guggenheim fellowships. Kinnell has served as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
