Robert Bringhurstb. 1946
Robert Bringhurst is a Canadian poet, typographer, and author. His book The Elements of Typographic Style (1992) is considered an important reference book on typography and book design. He is also a cultural historian and linguist, and has worked closely with one of Canada’s native tribes, the Haida, to help translate their epics into English. Bringhurst’s own poetry draws on his experiences with Native American myths and storytelling, as well as his training in philosophy, comparative literature, and linguistics. Bringhurst’s poetry is known for its wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and linguistic clarity.
